very interesting stuff to know and discover as you wander about Vancouver Island and Strathcona Park.

This island has a really interesting geological  history over its 408 million since it began to form. what is now Vancouver island started out down near the equator at the bottom of the sea and as it grow and broke the surface of the ocean and deployed, it plant life. The island began to drifting its way up here crashing into other island along the its path. finally it collided with North America forming the coastal mountain range on the mainland. the collision also pushed up and exposed the ancient rock strat. That land was called Wrangellia and stretches from Vancouver Island, through the Queen Charlotte Islands into the Yukon and southeastern Alaska.

When you are hiking in  Strathcona Park you are walking over and through 400 million years of ancient rock strat from the Devonian age to present day
